The 27th annual Walkathon was a success! On September 9th, the SHC community raised over a whopping $231,000, a record amount. A generous sum of over $10,000 was donated by alumni, past parents, faculty, staff and friends of SHC to assist students who needed help with their fundraising. Their efforts deserve the utmost appreciation.

The funds raised for 2016 will go toward the completion of our science facilities, assist in the ongoing upgrades of non-science classrooms, student travel grants and scholarships. Just last week, the Shakespeare Club had the opportunity to go to Ashland, Oregon. Trips like this and other opportunities has the potential of being funded by Walkathon money through travel grants. Students who cannot pay the price of the excursion can still find a way to go through the efforts of the Walkathon.

The Polo Fields and Karl the Fog were gracious as well on the day of the event. The route and weather, both to our luck, were hassle free. There were over 100 parent volunteers who participated in the Walk and assisted with the delicious barbecue.

Our school raised over $3.7 million in total from this Irish tradition. It’s safe to say that this year’s Walkathon was a huge success, setting the precedent for the years to come.

The Walkathon recap video was done by Stephen Chen ’17 and Calvin Wong’17. Check it out for a fun synopsis of the event.
