John Boehner Throws His Lifelong Dream Away

Since John Boehner was a child, he always wanted to be in Congress.  A self-made man, he fought his way to the federal position of Speaker of the House by working countless jobs and studying at Xavier University for 7 years. He assumed office on January 5 2011, and carried out the duties of his position well enough to win re-election on January 3 2013 to serve in a second term.

People rarely ever achieve their lifelong goals like he has, and if they do, they never end up throwing them away. That is why his speech of resignation on September 25 came as a surprise to all.

He says that his plan all along was to retire at the end of last year, but didn’t feel it was the right time, since the leader with the majority lost his election in the running for Speaker of the House. Boehner stated in his speech of resignation,”You know what, today is the day that I’m going to do this.” He blames also his resignation on the ultra-conservative representatives that he was listening to. The list of people includes House Majority Leader, Kevin McCarthy. He claimed that they were very hard to listen to, and even accused them of being very stubborn.

According to the Huffington Post, he also stated that now is the right time because his, “prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable harm to the institution[government].”

A day before his announcement of resignation, he spoke to the pope. The pope told him, “please pray for me,” and due to this, he felt that it was truly the right time to resign.

The nation should prepare to say farewell to John Boehner in late October as his official resignation will take effect on Oct.30, 2015.
