San Francisco Giants: World Series 2014

The San Francisco Giants have left a great legacy in baseball history, winning three World Series within a five year period. They defeated the Kansas City Royals  3-2 at Kauffman stadium, becoming the first team in 35 years to win a Game 7 on the road. They have joined the Boston Red Sox as the only teams to win three World Series in the 21st Century.

This postseason would not have been a success without Madison Bumgarner, the talented 25-year old left-hander who won the MVP of the World Series. Bumgarner won two games, shutting out the Royals in Game 4, 11-4, and Wednesday’s save of five scoreless innings to lead the San Francisco Giants to another chapter of their titles and championships.

Furthermore, Bumgarner is claimed to be one of the best pitchers not only in the World Series, but also all of Major League Baseball, following the footsteps of Christy Mathewson of the New York Giants who won three shutouts back in the 1905 World Series. More impressive, he was pitching on two days’ rest, after a 117- pitch classic in Game 4.

Bumgarner faced tremendous pressure, especially near the end of the bottom 9th with a runner in scoring position after Alex Gordon got to third base from a fielding error by Gregor Blanco. Even with the royal blue sea of 40,000 fans standing and chanting “Lets Go Royals”, Madison Bumgarner still managed to get Salvador Perez to hit a pop up, to celebrate their third World Series title in five years in their opponent’s ballpark. Posey ran to Bumgarner and celebrated with him giving him a prolonged hug, “Yeah, I think it’s a dynasty, “ Buster Posey said, “Today, with the parity of our game, three out of five is special.”

“I knew what was on the line, and I’m a huge fan of baseball,” Posey said. “I was just honored and humbled to be a part of three championships in five years. I know how historic the performance of Bumgarner was, and I was really tired, too, so that had something to do with it.”

The Royal fans were stunned after they tried to conjure an electric atmosphere all night. This had been the Royal’s first opportunity to win a championship since 1985. However, the San Francisco Giants proved to be victorious winning their recent titles on the road, routing the Rangers in Arlington Texas in 2010 and Tigers in Detroit in 2012, and now the Royals in Kansas City, Missouri in 2014.
