San Francisco is a city of great culture and spirit, bringing with it many fun pastimes and new discoveries. If you live in SF you may have wondered how to make the most of each season. Well, you’re in luck, because we’ve got a list of fun activities to do with friends, family, or by yourself during each season of the year!
Spring:
Spring in the city ranges from chillier weather at its start to warmer days as summer approaches. Some of SF’s most popular activities in the springtime include the SF Art Fair held at Fort Mason and the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival, taking place in Japantown. The latter event honors Japanese culture and is a great place to visit if you want to view pretty sites. Finally, an activity held in San Francisco’s Mission district, the Cesar Chavez Day Parade, honors the legacy of Cesar Chavez, a civil rights activist.
Summer:

A San Francisco summer is unlike your average hot and sunny summer, but can still be plenty of fun! While each season has a lot of exciting, seasonal activities to take part in, we believe that summertime offers some of the best activities. As music enthusiasts and concert fans, we love how SF has so many concerts of various music genres, such as Outside Lands. This summer, SF is hosting A$AP Rocky, Olivia Dean, and many other artists. All of these are a great chance to get dressed up and attend once in a lifetime performances while enjoying time with your friends. Another fun music event is the Stern Grove Festival, an iconic San Francisco performance site since 1938. Every music festival allows you to discover many new songs and artists, as well as to socialize with others.
For sports fanatics, baseball fans can look forward to attending a Giants game at Oracle Park, as they enjoy its remarkable view of the San Francisco Bay. Despite its non-traditional weather, SF residents still have a lot to look forward to during the summertime.
Fall:

While fall usually marks the beginning of the colder months, in SF it signals that traditional summer weather is just beginning, which is the perfect time to enjoy the last couple months of late sunsets from many of San Francisco’s stunning beaches, such as Crissy Field, Ocean Beach, and Baker Beach. Each September, the city takes part in Fleet Week, a weekend where many gather to watch the U.S. Navy Blue Angels fly over the city. As October comes around, there are tons of pumpkin patches and fall festivals throughout the city to enjoy. The Fall Cider Fest is a delightful event where you can try new things such as a craft cider tasting!
Winter:

During the winter, one entertaining activity includes the Illuminate SF Festival of Light. This is a magical light show from November to January, in which you can walk down a trail of mesmerizing art installations. Another enticing winter activity in San Francisco is the Union Square Ice Rink, a perfect activity to do when it is cold out, just steps from a view of the Macy’s Christmas tree. Finally, one of our favorite activities is the SF Ballet’s The Nutcracker, in which you can see Bay Area kids and teens perform at the historic War Memorial Opera House. Fun fact: The Nutcracker first performed in the same venue in 1944.
While there are many enjoyable activities in San Francisco to enjoy during the wintertime, sometimes one of the most simple, yet festive, can involve driving around the city to look at all of the beautiful holiday lights and decorations.
Whether you prefer outdoor activities in the summertime or indoor experiences during the winter, there is always something to do in the city by the bay! We particularly enjoy summer activities because of their wide range of events, but each season calls for a chance to discover the city in new and exciting ways that can appeal to all ages.
