Warriors Season Preview

Warriors+Season+Preview+

One year ago, no one expected anything of the Golden State Warriors, who had only won 23 games and hadn’t made any major splashes in free agency. Last season, however, the Warriors surprised everyone by winning 47 games and making the playoffs for only the second time since 1994.

Not only did they make the playoffs, but they performed admirably. The Warriors defeated the Nuggets in six games and even gave the Spurs a run for their money in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. No matter how great those accomplishments were, the Warriors franchise has its eyes set upon something greater – a 50+ win season and, more importantly, a championship run.

The Warriors kept the same nucleus of players as last year, not losing a single starter, and added much needed depth on the bench. They even signed superstar wing player Andre Iguodala, an excellent perimeter defender, finisher and passer. With Iggy matched up with the back-court of Curry and Thompson, expect many drives and kick-outs to them for the open three-pointer. The Warriors, however, won’t only depend on the three-pointer this season, because they have many great players who can finish in the paint, such as the high-flying Barnes or Mr. Double-Double himself: David Lee.

There are many smaller names on this team that can play as well,  including the rugged defender, Draymond Green; the European Derrick Rose, Nemanja Nedovic; Speights; Douglass; Jermaine O’Neal; the Bosnian, Kuzmic; and even Kent Bazemore. This team is very balanced, having many physical defenders, yet finesse players as well. There’s also a good mix of young studs and veteran leadership too.

After having a great season last year, the Warriors are in the national spotlight with a load of expectations on their backs. Although some doubt the Warriors’ abilities, true fans must always have faith in them and remember our motto: WE BELIEVE!
