SHC Kairos X

The SHC Kairos X family returns to Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory!

When students came back from Kairos X on Friday, September 12, the SHC community gave them an exciting welcome back. They were on retreat from Wednesday morning, September 10 to Friday evening, September 12.

These retreats presented the opportunity for students to reflect upon their relationships with God, themselves, their families, friends, and others. They ventured far away from the school; the setting was comfortable and very simple. Each and every one of the students felt enlightened.

Most students thought it was just another way not to go to school, but at the end of Kairos everyone had such a nice time that no one wanted to leave. Like one of the Kairos leaders, Sydney Fewer ‘15 said: “Don’t judge the retreat until it’s over.” Even though school work needs to be made up and some of the seniors are taking the ACT on September 13, parents and teachers still encourage the opportunity to go.

The student leaders who were high school seniors and alumni made everything helpful and easier for these students to enjoy their experience.  I was one of the students on the retreat and it was an enjoyable, yet emotional experience. It was a very diverse group of students who are not usually close to each other before but now they see each other very differently, as they were seen sitting together at lunch on Monday.

The rule of Kairos is that we can’t tell the future generations about what Kairos is. Feliciano Abello ’15 mentioned on the welcome back reunion that “there is no word that describes all of what Kairos is.” That is true, as there is not word that describes Kairos, even though Kairos is an ancient Greek word meaning “the right or supreme moment.” Gregory Schmitz says that “the boys and girls that were on our retreat will return to you as men and women.”

In addition, always remember to “Live the Fourth!”
