It’s that time of the year again. WHOO-HOO!

WHOO HOOO!!!! Every morning homeroom, Ms. Alex Goldberg rallies SHC students with the trademark catchphrase of the annual Walkathon fundraiser. This enthusiasm coupled with the student body’s determination pushes SHC toward improved science facilities, an updated theater and an expanded weight room.

Last year, students raised a record $209,294.94 in walkathon donations. This year, the development office projected that the school would break that record.

Through early bird submissions alone, students, especially from the large freshman class,  contributed an impressive $84,024. In fact, fifty more students made the early deadline this year. Kai Wong ‘16, one of these early birds, brought in a whopping $588. As the top sophomore contributor, she received a prize rewarding  her efforts.

“I was shocked when I was called up to receive a prize during the Walkathon Assembly,” Wong said. “I’m glad I got called up, because it was nice to show my peers that if they raise money to support our school, they can also receive prizes.”

As Ms. Goldberg has said, “Keeping the energy is key.” Although the rallies, classroom competitions and  prizes  will soon conclude, excitement still lingers.

Officially, the school has collected $212,077.50, surpassing the previous record and bumping the 2013 Walk-a-thon into SHC history. The student body has once again astounded everyone with its amazing efforts to support each other and the school.
