Located in the heart of North Beach on Stockton Street, the Little Italy of San Francisco, the Slice House has all the classic pizza types, including: cheese, pepperoni, four cheese, veggie, Sicilian, meat lover’s, and more. Tony Gemignani, creator and owner of both restaurants, is a pizza genius (to say the least). Just take a look at his 13 World Pizza Championship titles! His other businesses in North Beach include Capo’s, Tony’s Pizza, Toscano Brothers, and Giovanni, but he has several other businesses and restaurant locations in both the city and around California and Nevada. Gemignani’s stores make North Beach truly special, adding to the Italian culture of the neighborhood and everyone’s love for good food.
When ordering, you can choose which whole pizza or slice(s) you want based on the four types available: New York, Sicilian, Grandma (pan-fried with thin crust), or Detroit (deep-dish and crispy). Another amazing thing is the slices are huge, as to say bigger than my head, and one is definitely enough for one person. The slices at the Slice House are cheesy, gooey, crispy, and doughy – everything you could want in a pizza. But, there aren’t only pizzas at the Slice House. There are also pastas, salads, and desserts such as their delicious cannolis. As someone who lives in North Beach, I go to the Slice House often and keep my order simple: a four cheese or pepperoni slice.

When I went to get my favorite pizza today after being apart from it for months, all those warm and fuzzy feelings came back. Yes, it’s nostalgic for me as someone who has grown up in the neighborhood and was raised on this pizza, but it is objectively good pizza and a go-to spot when in North Beach. When I got there, the line of people waiting for their pizzas was huge, but honestly not surprising since this is one of the most-loved restaurants in town. I went with a quick and simple option: four cheese. This pizza type is a classic and hard not to love. It is especially perfect for those who don’t like tomatoes or tomato sauce (”The audacity!” Italy is crying). On average, a slice is $7.25, but remember that this is San Francisco. Basically everything is pricey, and the slices are huge.
Tony Gemignani’s Slice House is as good as people say, and it has many pizzas and other options that are all made with love. The four cheese pizza I had lived up to my memories and expectations – completely delicious. So, if you’re looking for a new pizza spot that sells huge pizzas by the slice, go to Tony’s Slice House in North Beach to get a taste of the renowned pizzas!
