With the end of the college application season, SHC’s seniors are undoubtedly looking toward the future, ready to begin a new chapter of their lives. Equipped with newfound wisdom, the Emerald asked 28 seniors in a poll posted on Textbook Marketplace about their perspectives as they head to college and what advice they would give to younger students who will soon be going through the admissions process. Here’s what they had to say:
What’s one tip you have in preparing for the college application process?
- Start thinking about it early and stay on top of deadlines. Make sure you stay updated with your portals once you’ve submitted your applications. Also, try to meet with your college advisor as often as you can/need to! They’re super helpful when it comes to finding colleges that may be the right fit, going over essays, scholarships, and even just to talk with! – Gianna Crasta ‘25
- Do not feel too pressured to get everything done as [soon as] possible, but avoid not having an idea of what you are going to do. Most of the process is creating and refining your ideas, and that’s what will cause the most problems if you put it off. – Ben Wiggins ‘25
- The biggest tip I have for the college application process is to stay organized and to keep yourself accountable. As you are ultimately the one who decides whether you will apply to a certain school or program, only you can put in the time and effort to get things done! – Catherine Tsang ‘25
- Start on your application as early as possible! It’s easy to put them off until the deadlines are closer, but you’ll be staying away from so much stress if you don’t procrastinate. – Zack Litvak ‘25
- Do college stuff in the summer. I heard the same advice a year ago but chose to ignore it, but I would’ve been so much less stressed had I listened. – Solomon Whitlam-Sandler ‘25
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions and start writing early! You have so many people here who are willing to help and support you! – Dylan Hing ‘25
