New Year, New Change, New Sacred Heart Cathedral President

The student body has a bright school year ahead, with all the new changes that have been made this year – from BYOD the renovated science classrooms with updated facilities – but, along with these new improvements, a surprising change will come upon SHC’s hierarchy, as school President Mr. Scudder will be stepping down from his position this year.

“It is important that schools are attentive to succession planning, especially in the area of leadership,” he said matter-of-factly, “As much as you love your job, you know you can’t do it forever. You need to take the time to create a process that allows for the transfer of institutional knowledge.” He will not be retiring, but in fact will remain at SHC as a teacher next year.

He has been serving the school for about 33 years, beginning as a teacher, working his way up to the position of dean of students for seven years, then becoming principal and finally the president.

“I will miss the perspective that the position gave me,” he admitted, “Being the President gives you a beautiful perch to view the school.”  Always looking towards the future, Mr. Scudder had been the overseer of the, financial office, admissions, development, communication and marketing- the glue that binds the many parts of the school together.

To Mr. Scudder this is indeed the “greatest job in the world” and we can say with certainty that all his efforts have paid off;  evident by the beautiful theatre, the Student Life Center and the Fitness Center that are now part of  SHC’s campus.  Looking back on his Presidency, Mr.Scudder declared that his greatest contribution has been building an infrastructure that supports a school like SHC- a school with a rigorous college prep program, and award winning cocrriculars, capable of serving the needs of its students.

Mr. Scudder’s presidency will officially end June 30, but this will definitely not be the end of his career at SHC.
