Red Cross on Campus

Attention students! Earlier this year, junior Nika Toulinova introduced to SHCP its newest club: the Red Cross Club. Although it may be new, numerous achievements have already been made. From the Blood Drive, to the Earthquake Drill, and to the Holiday Mail for Heroes, its most recent activity, the club continues to grow. Their mission statement is to provide relief to victims and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Every month, the SHCP Red Cross Club meets with different students and volunteers from other schools from all over the Bay Area to discuss upcoming activities or events and other ways in promoting the Red Cross mission. The club continues to hold various events that are continually open to the student body.

To begin the year, the club’s first major project was the Blood Drive. The club played a large role in spreading the news and updates for the drive, creating appealing advertisements and encouraging students to donate and support a worthy cause. During the day of the actual event in later October, many parents and students walked through the doors of the old gym to donate blood. Club members attended to donors who may have been frightened and provided them with snacks.

Another project was the Great California Earthquake Shake Out. Members produced an informative presentation about earthquake precautions and safety measures. This presentation was seen by the whole school.  The most recent SHCP Red Cross activity, “Holiday Mail for Heroes”, allowed students to gather together to craft cards with warm thoughts and holiday wishes.  Most importantly, it gave them the opportunity to express their gratitude to the troops serving overseas, veterans and their families.

The SHCP Red Cross Club has opened up many engaging events for students to participate in. Everyone is encouraged to stop by the club to obtain more information and to meet new people. Listen to the announcements and come check the club to find out what’s next!
