The Rotten Apple

Apple. What was the first thing you thought of when you saw that word? Was it the fruit, or was it one of the dozen devices that are within a 10 yard radius from you?

Let’s face it, Apple has become freakishly popular, enough to be as common as the fruit itself. Despite the similarity in name and popularity, there is one key difference: apples are grown on trees, and Apple steals your money for sub-par products.

Why would I say such a thing? Simple.

As shown in a graphic compiled by SHC (right), two laptops with the same exact statistics, (the OS interfaces are roughly the same) are, at cheapest, $600 dollars away from each other. Apple charges almost triple the amount of money that Macintosh charges for a laptop of the same quality hardware. This becomes even more ridiculous when you realize that the $350 dollar Windows laptop is actually the superior product.

Windows has the key point of being open-source. What does this mean? It means that third-parties have access to the source code of Windows OS. This enables said third-parties to create apps and software for Windows.

Apple is not open source. Apple has about as much accessibility as food guarded by starving bears. Apple is the Harvard to Window’s City College. Both do essentially the exact same thing, but Harvard costs a lot more money. Sure, Harvard might excel in certain areas, but City College is accessible by all, and if you just want to study and work, City College is the place to be. Windows products are three times cheaper, more accessible and more useful than Apple.

Let’s also take a look at Apple’s products. The iPhone gets a new release every year. The iPhone 4 added Retina Display, the Cloud, and more space. The 4S added Siri. The 5 added more space and a bigger screen. Interface? Why change that? The ungodly long start-up time? People like waiting. Apple never bothers to adjust their products. The only SLIGHTLY innovative addition to the iPhone was Siri, and that costs an extra $50 dollars. The iPad series is even worse, as they managed to go BACKWARDS. The iPad series’ sole selling point was that it was a bigger iPhone. That point is nullified COMPLETELY  when you make an iPad Mini. At this point, Apple is just making products and then expecting us to buy them. And the sad thing is that we all do. I personally own a Macbook Pro, an iPad, and iPhone 4 (incidentally, all of them were birthday presents). We all just buy Apple products with no consideration of the fact that they are ridiculously inferior to Windows products. Apple has us eating out of their white, incredibly expensive hand.

Windows, on the other hand, has always tried to give us something new. Windows Vista, 7, and 8 have all attempted to change things up. They may not have been successful changes, but they were changes nonetheless. Windows laptops come in a variety of shapes and sizes, while Apple sells Macbooks that are simply based on screen size. Windows creates PC’s that now implement touch screens, while Apple, just produces Mac Pros. And unnecessarily large mouse pads. Windows has never been perfect, but when a product is faulty, the designers try to change it. When an Apple product is faulty, they ship it out anyway, because they’re Apple. They’ll make money off of it no matter what.

That’s why I’m writing this article. I cannot stand the fact that a company that so many people rely on can just make such lazy products. I hate Apple for it. Windows constantly provides new interfaces and content, while Apple makes millions just by shipping practically the same thing out every year. In conclusion, Windows is superior because Windows caters to us, while Apple makes us cater to them, and then charges us for it. Personally, I prefer to be catered to, and keep my money in my wallet. I like to think that everybody else feels the same way. There’s no point in buying an expensive apple that’s already rotten.

What are you bringing/buying as a BYOD for next year?
