Turkey Pop Treats

Turkey Pop Treats

Pumpkin pie has become a staple of every Thanksgiving, so why not try something new?  I have a different, delicious dessert that will really ‘pop’!  These tasty treats, similar to cake pops, are bite-sized morsels that are sure to satisfy.  While they’re fun for kids, adults will certainly get a kick out of them.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Servings: 24

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp. butter or margarine

  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows OR 4 cups miniature marshmallows

  • 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal

  • 24 lollipop sticks or wooden ice cream sticks

  • 1 package (12 oz., 2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil

  • 1 1/3 cups candy corn

  • 48 small white candies (they’re like little tiny balls)

Directions to make the Rice Krispies:

  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat

  2. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat

  3. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated

  4. Using 1/4 cup (coated with cooking spray), divide the warm cereal mixture into 24 portions

  5. Using buttered hands, shape each portion into a ball

  6. Insert the lollipop sticks into each

  7. Place on wax-paper-lined baking sheet

  8. Refrigerate for about 10 minutes, or until firm

Directions to make the chocolate:

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and oil

  2. Microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth, stirring every 30 seconds

  3. Dip each rice ball into chocolate, allowing excess to drip off

  4. Return to wax-paper-lined baking sheet

  5. Refrigerate for 5 to 10 minutes more or until chocolate is almost set

  6. Gently decorate with candy corn for tail feathers (3 is fine) and one for the beak

  7. Press in white candy balls for the eyes

  8. Let stand until firm
