This year marks the 20th anniversary of the murder mystery of 6 year old beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey.  Though the incident occurred in 1996, the case has since been reopened in 2010.  On September 16, 2016, Dr. Phil McGraw released the first of a three-part series in which he interviews JonBenét’s older brother, Burke Ramsey.  The 29 year old decided to come out from his off the grid lifestyle and answer questions surrounding the odd killing.

JonBenét was murdered in her home the day after Christmas.  She was found in her basement.  Clues such as a baseball bat, bowl of pineapple, and ransom note were all leads to the big mystery.  To this day, the criminal is unknown, yet there are many theories to who committed the heinous crime.

Once the first part of the interview was released, Burke Ramsey received considerable heat for smiling and smirking throughout the duration of the interview.  This led people to believe that he murdered his little sister.  Dr. Phil came to his defense, explaining that since he was a 9 year old at the time of the murder.  Due to his young age, he has been hidden away from the media and any type of outside attention ever since.  Basically, McGraw is saying that Ramsey is just socially awkward.  Interesting.

JonBenét’s brother is not the first in his family to be accused of the murder.  Both her parents, especially her mother, Patsy were all considered witnesses of the crime.  Press interviews after the six-year-old’s death did not seem very emotional at all, leading many to believe that the murder was staged by her mother.  There are several pieces that people use to account her for the murder.  First, being a former pageant queen, Patsy has been portrayed as a stage mom, taking advantage of her child to relive her former years.

There will be four different TV projects throughout the fall, (including a Lifetime movie) highlighting the life and murder of JonBenét Ramsey.  It will be interesting how the culprit is portrayed for each different version.  Will they remain a shadowy figure in the background?  Perhaps producers will pin the murder on a named person.  Stay tuned to find out.
