Frozen Crosses $1 Billion

After years of falling behind, Disney finally got it right with its not so new movie, “Frozen.” After 15 weeks of this heartwarming story being in theaters, it is still at the top of its game. “Frozen” is a tale about princess Anna who teams up with a friend, Kristoff, in an intense journey, with a cheerful snowman named Olaf, in a race to find Anna’s sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in an eternal winter.

Disney’s “Frozen” entered March having grossed $388.7 million domestic, and passed $1 billion worldwide.  Since “Frozen” has passed $1 billion worldwide, that makes it Disney’s biggest-grossing non-Pixar animated film (ahead of The Lion King at $986 million). Everyone at Disney was proud of their achievements with “Frozen,” especially the fact that it was one of their non-Pixar animated films. It’s also now the second-biggest grossing film of all-time to center mainly around female leads, behind Disney’s “Alice In Wonderland” ($1.025 billion).

At the Oscars on March 2, “Frozen” won Best Animated Picture, and its hit “Let it Go” won Best Song. Just one week after the Oscars on March 9, “Frozen” is the number eight film of the week with $3.01 million. After an incredible 16 weeks in the top ten, Frozen has grossed $393 million domestic.

Being released on November 27, 2013, “Frozen” is still in theaters and is still outlasting its competition. Who would have guessed that an animated Disney movie would be at the top of the box office and billboard charts? Kids, teens, parents, even grandparents have been able to enjoy this movie, there’s a reason it’s been doing so well. I’d say that “Frozen” is definitely worth your while to watch.
