    Mother Knows Best: Chocolate Chip Cookies

    This weekend I decided to relive my youth by doing the one thing all children love to do: bake chocolate chip cookies.

    When I was in elementary school, my mother would always bake her delicious chocolate chip cookies with walnuts. Whether it be for my basketball team, a class party, or simply a Sunday afternoon snack, the smells of chocolate and cookie dough always made my mouth water as I sat in front of the oven and watched the mounds of goodness rise. What is the best part of my mother’s cookies, though? The family fun involved in creating the sweet, chocolaty treats.

    Because everyone wanted the cookies to be done faster, my sisters and brothers would beg my mother to let them help her out. Imagine, after ten minutes there would be at least one cracked egg on the floor, flour covering at least one person, and chocolate chips scattered all over the table. As a result, my mom would send most of us out of the kitchen to play videogames, but I would always stay.

    I actually quite enjoyed being the only one to help my mother out. For one thing, I learned tricks on how to make sure the cookie dough came out just right. Not only that, but I loved the responsibility given to me by my mom. When you were just a kid, being the “master of the cookies” had its perks, especially when those perks included taste-testing each batch. Not only that, but parents and students at my school loved my mother’s cookies and always were amazing when they learned that I helped out.

    But do you want to know the best part? My mother’s “secret cookie recipe” in fact wasn’t so secret at all. Just take a look behind your store bought chocolate chips and sure enough you will find the recipe my mother uses for her cookies. Yes, my mother’s scrumptious desserts are the Nestle® Toll House® chocolate chip cookie recipe. So now you too can make wonderful chocolate chip cookies without a sweat.

    If you want to add a twist to these crunchy cookies, try putting a marshmallow on top of half the cookies two minutes before taking them out. Make sure the cookies are not golden brown yet because if you place the marshmallows on too late, you could have toasty cookies rather than toasted marshmallows. After the marshmallows have fluffed, take out the cookies and place a cookie without a marshmallow on top. Quick and easy chocolate chip cookies sandwiches will be at your fingertips!

    Nestle ® Toll House ® Recipe:

    Ingredients
    2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
    3/4 cup granulated sugar
    3/4 cup packed brown sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    2 large eggs
    2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
    1 cup chopped nuts (I usually put in walnuts, but pecans work too!)

    Directions
    PREHEAT oven to 375° F.
    COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
    BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
